Frequently Asked Questions
Hospice respite care is a service designed to give primary caregivers a temporary break from the physical and emotional demands of caring for a loved one with a terminal illness. During this time, the patient receives the same level of compassionate care they are accustomed to, ensuring there is no interruption in comfort or support.
At Hospice of Lenawee, we understand that caregiving is exhausting work, and we believe that taking time to rest is not a luxury but a necessity. Our team steps in so that caregivers can recharge, attend to personal matters, or simply take a moment to breathe.
The exact duration depends on the caregiver's needs and the patient's care plan. Our team works closely with each family to determine the right amount of time and ensure that the transition in and out of respite care is seamless and stress-free. For eligible patients, Medicare allows up to five consecutive nights of respite care.
